George Louridas Makes 10 Films In Four Months For 'The White Diaries'
The Greek filmmaker’s journey through nine countries inspired portraits of women and reflections on independent cinema, audiences and artistic access.

“By definition, a diary entails confession—a deeply personal, intimate nature, comprising images and thoughts not meant for other eyes. Yet, ‘The White Diaries’ use the cinematic lens to penetrate the psyche of cities and their women, presenting us—with a reverence akin to a fairy tale—footage and confessions that transcend the confines of pages, borders and stereotypes.”
— Archontoula Alexandropoulou, writer, on ‘The White Diaries’
George Louridas is a Greek film and theater director who believes in independent cinema by all means. He made a trip from November 2024 to March 2025 through nine European countries, with the goal of meeting interesting people and making as many films as possible.
In just four months, he shot 10 films. Each country was a new page in his diary, and each actress a new story. Thus was born the project ‘The White Diaries,’ in which poetry becomes a universal language, and the actresses portray the intensity of emotions that a human can carry. The stories spread in the pages, connecting experiences of women across Europe.
George is a nomad filmmaker. In relation to films and film festivals today, he has a very specific idea:
“Cinema must find its voice and its audience. Independent artists today should be able to express themselves, without worrying about their social background, or lack of opportunities.
We are facing a serious problem; many good movies are not easily accessible to the public. We need more platforms between each other to be created.
I firmly believe that every film with a unique voice will always have its place and time to say its story. Today, Film Centers and Institutions are more interested on the political narrative of a film and on which corner you look at a subject, rather than the essence of a creation which is: Colors, Feelings and the actors’ Performances. The Big Film Festivals are very keen on promoting the narrative of an event, not really willing to show a pure feeling around the same event even. They are not really willing to show something that can be inexplicable to the general public, because of lack of categorization and labeling that they love so much.
But, I believe that movies are here to convey a message that is not always easily understandable. They introduce people into new emotions where words fail. This is what I tried to do with every one of my movies. It can be a lonely journey but it is one worth every step of the way.”
You can find all the films from ‘The White Diaries’ available to watch for free on YouTube.
George is also the founder of the Leda’s Monologues film festival in Greece, which has been gathering creators since 2020, connecting artists and directors from all over the world.

It is a cinematic novel, written in the form of a diary, featuring photographs from the journey and sketches by artist Nephele Katsarou.
