LOS ANGELES — Writer-director Sarah Rooney, alongside a female-led creative team, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for her romantic-comedy short 'The One Year Itch' — described as what you'd get if 'Fleabag' had a baby with 'High Fidelity' and raised it on 'Girls'.
Rooney's second short follows Ellyn, a 30-year-old, adorably neurotic woman whose one-year anniversary dinner doesn't go as planned when she accidentally trips on mushrooms; confronted with insecurities from her ex-boyfriend's past, Ellyn finally begins to see clearly.
“'The One Year Itch' is for anyone who's stayed in a relationship too long — not because it was right, but because it was easier,” Rooney said. “It's for anyone who's ever asked ‘does he like me?' a thousand times but never stopped to ask, ‘do I even like him?'” She added: “Growth is messy, frustrating and, in hindsight, pretty funny. This film leans into that.”
Produced by Sophie Smith, Sophia Huebschman and Sarah Soczka, the film shoots on location in Los Angeles and is aiming to raise $10,000 in 30 days on Seed&Spark.
