LOS ANGELES — Actor, writer and producer Mark Elias has launched a public WeFunder campaign for 'We Could Be Heroes', a new independent feature film that blends gamer culture, character-driven comedy and a modern approach to filmmaking powered by community investment.

Unlike traditional studio projects, 'We Could Be Heroes' is being financed openly, allowing supporters to invest at any level and become part of the film's journey from script to screen — reflecting a growing shift in entertainment where audiences don't just watch stories, they help build them.

The film centers on outsiders navigating identity, belonging and ambition within contemporary gaming culture, offering a fresh, human take on a world often overlooked by mainstream cinema. Fast-paced, funny and grounded in character, it is designed for global audiences who grew up online and crave authentic representation.

Elias, whose previous feature 'Boy Makes Girl' (now streaming on Apple TV) earned multiple festival awards, sees the campaign as more than fundraising. “This is about letting people participate in something meaningful,” he says. “We're not just asking for support — we're inviting people into the creative process.” Supporters can receive exclusive updates, behind-the-scenes access and the opportunity to dedicate a Special Thanks credit in the film.

The project has also sparked early conversations with global esports organizations, underscoring its connection to gaming culture and its potential reach beyond traditional film audiences. To learn more or invest, visit the WeFunder campaign.
