BOURNEMOUTH, England — The Bournemouth International Film Festival (BIFF) has announced that acclaimed British actor Christopher Eccleston has joined as Festival Patron for its inaugural edition, taking place Oct. 3–4, 2025, at the Hilton Bournemouth.
With a career spanning more than three decades across television, film, and theatre, Eccleston is one of the U.K.’s most respected and recognisable acting talents. His work in ‘Our Friends in the North,’ ‘Shallow Grave,’ ‘The Leftovers,’ ‘The A Word,’ and as the Ninth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’ has earned widespread critical acclaim and a place in the hearts of audiences across generations.
“Christopher’s support sends a powerful message about the role of regional festivals in shaping the future of British storytelling,” said Festival Director Steve McCarten. “His work consistently champions bold, socially conscious narratives, and that aligns perfectly with what we’re building at BIFF.”
BIFF 2025 will feature screenings across genre and form, industry-led panels and workshops, a black-tie awards night, and a strong emphasis on first-time filmmakers and new voices. The not-for-profit initiative is designed to empower emerging talent and build creative opportunities for communities across Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole, and beyond. Eccleston joins a growing roster of supporters and collaborators, including the BFI, Creative England, Arts University Bournemouth, Chine Financial, My Little Teddy, Adventure Attractions, and the U.K. Shared Prosperity Fund.
Founded in 2024, BIFF’s mission is to inspire, empower, and showcase fearless talent through film, workshops, and creative community engagement. Tickets are now available at bournemouthfilmfest.co.uk.
