LONDON – Aug. 20, 2025 – Filmmaker Jason M. J. Brown is generating buzz with his upcoming horror feature Emerald Cottage, a tense and atmospheric story set in the British countryside at the end of World War II.

Billed as “the next big British horror,” the film blends psychological suspense with chilling supernatural elements. Brown, known for independent horror projects such as Dark Vale, Ghost Track and Creep Encounters, says Emerald Cottage will deliver “a claustrophobic, slow-burn dread that stays with you long after the credits roll.”

The story follows Nancy, an undertaker’s assistant who takes an unexpected job in a remote cottage, tasked with caring for the body of a young soldier who has died under mysterious circumstances. Alone in isolation, she soon realizes things aren’t what they seem. The shadows of post-war trauma, grief and superstition blur the line between the living and the dead, pulling Nancy into a psychological descent where silence itself becomes a threat.

Production stills reveal dimly lit interiors, rural desolation and unnerving imagery — fueling speculation from horror fans eager for its release. Shot on location in rural England with muted tones and natural light, the film builds its unease in quiet pauses, lulling the audience into calm before pulling them into darkness. “It’s a film that works its way under your skin without asking permission,” Brown explains.

The project has already attracted attention from genre sites and industry insiders for its haunting visuals and atmospheric approach. With its themes of survival, grief and the scars of conflict, Emerald Cottage is already drawing comparisons to A24-style psychological horror.
