LONDON — Filmmaker Jason M.J. Brown is generating buzz with his upcoming horror feature ‘Emerald Cottage,’ a tense, atmospheric story set in the British countryside at the end of World War II.
Billed as “the next big British horror,” the film blends psychological suspense with chilling supernatural elements. Brown, known for independent horror projects such as ‘Dark Vale,’ ‘Ghost Track,’ and ‘Creep Encounters,’ says ‘Emerald Cottage’ will deliver “a claustrophobic, slow-burn dread that stays with you long after the credits roll.”
The story follows Nancy, an undertaker’s assistant who takes an unexpected job in a remote cottage, caring for the body of a young soldier who has died under mysterious circumstances. Alone in isolation, she soon realizes things aren’t what they seem, as the shadows of post-war trauma, grief, and superstition blur the line between the living and the dead. Shot on location in rural England with muted tones and natural light, the film builds unease in quiet pauses. “It’s a film that works its way under your skin without asking permission,” Brown said.
The cast is led by Charlotte Wallis as Nancy, a Drama Studio London alum and Lilian Baylis Award recipient, and includes Sean Kanan (‘The Karate Kid Part III’) as Chester, Kitty Sudbery (‘Creep Encounters,’ ‘Cinderella’s Curse,’ ‘Fairyland’) as Meg, Peter Watson as Robert, Sadie Kime as Jenny, and Rafe Bird (‘The Shamrock Spitfire,’ ‘The Hunter’). With its themes of survival, grief, and the scars of conflict, ‘Emerald Cottage’ is drawing comparisons to A24-style psychological horror. A release date has not yet been announced.
