BADEN, Switzerland — In its 23rd edition, the Fantoche International Animation Film Festival in Baden has announced its competition lineup, selecting 89 animated short films from a total of 3,050 submissions. Of these, 66 will compete for 11 prizes across the International, Swiss, and Children’s Film competitions, while a further 23 will screen in the “Panorama” programme. The festival (Sept. 2–7) also features the themed focus “9 to 5” and a country focus on Estonia.
In the International Competition, 32 films will compete for five prizes: Best Film, High Risk, the Audience Award, the Youth Award for Best New Talent, and the Flying Anidoc Award. For the first time, the Best Film winner can qualify for both the Academy Awards and the BAFTA Awards, as Fantoche has been an Oscar- and BAFTA-qualifying festival since October 2024. The Swiss entry ‘Hunting,’ directed by Lea Favre, is among the international selections.
The Swiss and Children’s Film competitions round out the program, showcasing emerging and established animators from around the world. The full programme will be published Aug. 12, when pre-sales also begin.
