BURBANK, Calif. — Active Voice Productions, the independent film and media company founded by filmmaker Dylan Brody, has announced the continued festival success of its latest feature, ‘You Are Here: A Dylan Brody Project’ (2024, distributed by Circuit Cinema), an ensemble comedy led by veteran comedian Paul Provenza and Michele Martin.
The film turns romantic comedy on its head: an anonymous middle-aged music editor falls for a young conceptual artist, then spends much of the film with no idea that she’s entirely wrong for him. The micro-budget feature plays like a series of New Yorker shorts about the friction between art and commerce in Hollywood. It follows the company’s first feature-length streamer, ‘LockDown 2020,’ co-produced with Bonnie Hunt.
Brody brings a distinguished pedigree to the company, having earned the Stanley Drama Award for his play ‘Mother May I’ across a career spanning more than 20 years in entertainment and literature. An award-winning playwright, humorist, and author, he has shared stages with David Sedaris and written material used by comedians including Jay Leno on NBC’s ‘The Tonight Show.’
His next endeavor is a low-budget, limited-location thriller currently seeking investors. “Where ‘You Are Here’ hid ideas about the importance of art for art’s sake in a goofy romantic comedy, this one uses the thriller format to expose the Troubled Teen Industry,” Brody said. “It’s darker and way more commercial. And maybe a little bit important.”
