LONDON – 21 October, 2025 – You Were Perfect, a 12-minute fantasy drama short film, will begin production in London in spring 2026. Written and directed by Jody Whittle-Wyeth (PARIS IN THE RAIN [DOP], BETWEEN TWO GHOSTS, LOWIT, THE BOX), the film is an emotionally driven exploration of love, loss and second chances. Told through an LGBTQ+ lens, the story follows two lovers separated between the world of the living and the dead, delving into themes of grief, memory and human connection.
Synopsis for ‘You Were Perfect’: As an afterlife caseworker prepares to retire and finally live a life of his own, his final assignment – an enigmatic soul with ties to a forgotten past – threatens to unravel everything he thought he knew about memory, death, and himself.
‘This project was born from a place of deep grief and reflection,’ says Whittle-Wyeth. ‘It’s a comforting exploration of how love can soften the edges of loss, and how memory can guide us toward hope.’
The production emphasises cinematic world-building, with detailed sets, lighting, and sound designed to immerse audiences in a tactile, emotionally resonant universe.
Whittle-Wyeth is joined by an accomplished creative team, including cinematographer Matt Glen (I AM DARREN, JUST SAYING), production designer Anna Herold Pola (GLADIATOR II, NAPOLEON, THOR: LOVE & THUNDER), producers Tim Juby and Suzanne Holland, musical director John Wallace, and sound designer Danny Rowe.
The cast features acclaimed actors Keith Ramsay (EVE: ALL ABOUT HER, PRELUDES, SHETLAND) and Bart Lambert (NAPOLEON, SAVE THE CINEMA, MACHINES THAT MADE AMERICA).
‘From the first draft, the script’s ambition was clear,’ says Glen. ‘The opportunity to bring this world to life through production design, light, movement, and composition is exactly why I fell in love with filmmaking.’
Herold Pola adds, ‘Translating my background in painting and sculpture into a cinematic universe has been a dream. This project’s themes of love and grief give the story a depth that demands attention to every visual detail.’
