LOS ANGELES — A woman’s newly installed home security system hides a life-threatening secret: the technician is a stalker with sinister intentions. That’s the chilling premise of ‘Uneven Deception,’ now streaming on Tubi and the latest feature from filmmaker Nachela Knox, whose emotionally grounded storytelling continues to redefine independent cinema.
Knox, founder of GoGetHer Productions, is known for a directing style that blends intimacy with intensity — character-driven, with a focus on authentic performances, sharp pacing, and visuals that heighten emotional stakes without sacrificing realism. “I’m drawn to stories that feel personal but carry weight,” Knox says. “I want the audience to feel like they’re right there, watching, questioning, and emotionally invested.”
The film stars Lester Greene as Patrick, a seemingly helpful technician whose true motives unravel with disturbing clarity. Greene, known for his role in ‘Father May I,’ delivers a quiet, calculated, and deeply unsettling performance. ‘Uneven Deception’ also features standout work from Epiphany Anderson as the lead, with supporting players Zina Crook, Brynn Mosley, and Joshua T. Shipman. Jon Blaq, producer at GoGetHer Productions, also appears on screen as Wilson, while Eugene Bennett’s cinematography brings a moody, cinematic edge.
Distributed by Glass Slipper Pictures, ‘Uneven Deception’ is the result of a collaboration between GoGetHer Productions and Santana Hall Productions (now Castle Black Films). Filmed entirely in North Carolina with local crews, it blends psychological thriller with drama and moments of levity.
This is Knox’s second feature, following her debut ‘Couch Party,’ a self-funded indie she wrote, directed, and produced on a $20,000 loan and got onto Tubi, where it continues to stream. Produced for just $18,000, ‘Uneven Deception’ marks a new chapter in her career, scaling impact and visibility without compromising the heart of her storytelling.
