STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Continental Shoemakers announced that Emmy-nominated comedian and social activist Margaret Cho has joined the cast of its upcoming independent feature film, 'BEGET', as the narrator. The production company also named veteran industry executive Tijuana Ricks — recognized for her roles across Marvel’s Netflix television series — as a producer on the project.
Written and directed by filmmaker John Tedeschi, the film challenges foundational societal constructs by presenting an alternative, inclusive creation story told in parables.
The addition of Cho and Ricks infuses the independent project with major industry experience and a shared commitment to intersectional storytelling:
'BEGET' unfolds through a sequence of vivid vignettes and cinematic portraits, anchored by Cho’s narration. The narrative chronicles an original design by The Four Gods, who create a female couple, Stephanie and Eve, and a male couple, Dana and Adam, to populate the world through queer reproduction.
Centuries later, the introduction of a shape-shifting entity named Jake Prentes disrupts this harmonious design, pushing humanity toward a fractured existence. The plot follows generations of descendants, including the prophet Jesse and his partner Murray, as they navigate an evolving society and strive to return to the original plan where all love and creation are validated.
Produced by The Continental Shoemakers, the project aligns with the company’s core mission to create edifying, thought-provoking independent cinema that fosters empathy and drives cultural progress.
“I thought about the millennia we have been conditioned to accept Queer, BIPOC and Women as less than, and secondary,” Tedeschi said. “'BEGET' turns back time and starts at the Old Testament biblical beginning to make creation equal and queer.”
'BEGET' is beginning its festival-circuit run and will have a theatrical release soon.
