GENEVA — An animated short film based on the work of H. P. Lovecraft has turned to Kickstarter for support. Titled 'The Recorded Case of Joe Slaader', the project is a cinematic adaptation of Lovecraft’s early cosmic horror story 'Beyond the Wall of Sleep'.
Directed by Swiss filmmaker Olivier Beguin and produced by Chaoticlock Films, the short film revisits one of Lovecraft’s most intriguing early tales. The story centers on Joe Slaader, an asylum patient whose violent episodes and strange visions may be linked to something far beyond the boundaries of human perception.
Long-time collaborators Yannick Merlin and Yannick Rosset perform the roles using a Rokoko motion capture system in Unreal Engine.
While the production itself was already financed, the team launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund post-production, including final animation work, sound design and music.
Director Olivier Beguin previously explored genre cinema with the short western horror 'Dead Bones', as well as the award-winning feature film 'Chimères', a romantic horror story.
With 'The Recorded Case of Joe Slaader', Beguin turns to cosmic horror territory, translating Lovecraft’s strange scientific narrative into a visually driven animated short film.
