NEW YORK – Sept. 11, 2025 – The producers of the Telly Award-winning short film ‘Five Flights,’ written by Kathleen Kaan and directed by Daryl Denner, are excited to announce that ‘Five Flights’ has been selected for the New York Women in Film & Television’s 8th Annual Online Shorts Festival presented in partnership with iWomanTV. Congratulations to the cast, which stars Concetta Rose Rella and Johnny Tammaro, and features Lilah Merrell. A wonderful crew helped make this film stand out: cinematographer and editor Rodney Reyes, sound recordist Andrew Froening, camera assistant Zoe Papianni, and sound designer Michael Engesser. Executive producer Kathleen Kaan and producer Vanessa Cordova-Corwin pulled it all together.
The film is seen through the eyes of a 10-year-old girl. Her haunting words sum up her fears and hope for the future: “I live on the fifth floor on Fifth Street. I climb it every day. Five flights to nowhere. I’ll grow up and run away.” This sets the scene for a tragic tale of domestic abuse and serves as a warning about the dangers of guns in the home. The film was shot in New York City’s Alphabet City, where writer Kathleen Kaan grew up.
The selected films are available to stream on iWomanTV.
The film with the most views at the end of August will receive the Audience Choice Award from iWomanTV. So, watch ‘Five Flights’ often and tell your friends. Please note you will have to sign up for a free account with iWomanTV to watch the films.
