The entertainment industry is shifting in ways we haven’t seen in decades. Studios are restructuring, streaming strategies are evolving, and audiences are redefining what they want. While these changes can feel daunting, I believe this is actually a hopeful time for independent filmmakers.
Big studios have been forced to reimagine their models after years of over-investment in streaming and big blockbuster-only strategies. We’re watching historic studios reinvent how projects are made and this creates openings for indie filmmakers to step in and tell stories studios might have overlooked.
As someone who’s navigated both sides of the camera — acting opposite Jessica Lange in ‘The Great Lillian Hall’ and being directed by Ava DuVernay in ‘Origin’ — I’ve seen firsthand how the industry is searching for fresh stories and authentic voices. Independent filmmakers can move faster, take creative risks, and tell stories that resonate deeply with audiences.
The industry is recalibrating, and the opportunity for indie creators has never been greater. For those of us committed to telling meaningful stories, this reset could be the doorway we’ve been waiting for.
